Carswell the Druggist - Bug Killer Sign
25”l x 10”w x 1”t
Folk art sign inspired by the playful and distinctive signs of Carswell, a druggist in Gorham, Maine whose pharmacy operated from 1909 to 1962. Carswell is known among New England antique sign collectors for the whimsical and inventive signs he painted for his pharmacy.
The sign is cut from solid wood and hand-painted in traditional milk paint. The surface has been intentionally worn and weathered, with chipped and crackled paint that echoes the hard use of early painted shop signs.
Constructed with recycled box nails salvaged from an antique crate. The back is painted and finished.
Made in the spirit of early American sign making using traditional materials and finishes.
