Description
We once rented a house in the Adirondacks and invited our children and their families to join us. My son-in-law, Jake, is a fly-fishing fanatic—though I came to it myself a few years later. That first evening, I spent some time fishing from the dock, hoping for something wonderful: a northern pike, a smallmouth bass, or maybe even a trout. Instead, I kept catching tiny perch.
I went back up to the house, and Jake decided to try his hand at spin casting. He picked up my rod, made a cast, and immediately hooked a handsome northern pike. To this day, I’ve never hooked one myself—though I have landed a few fine trout. This carving comes from that memory: the fish, the place, and the story that has stayed with me.

This northern pike is part of an ongoing body of work shaped by observation, memory, and a lifelong love of the natural world. Each carving reflects not only the character of the animal itself, but also the personal stories and experiences that give the piece its spirit.

Each piece is carved and painted by hand. If this particular pike has already found a home, I would be happy to carve another for you. Because every carving is handmade, each will have its own unique character.
