Who is G.B. Davis?
I am first a student and a teacher.
My lifetime pattern is to learn new things. I hyperfixate on new skills until I achieve mastery. I’ve one goal in mind. I want to share these new skills with others.
My academic degrees are not in art or folklore or craft, but in education. I’ve spent nearly 40 years in progressive public elementary classrooms integrating reading, math and science with music and art; always encouraging students to act independently and take deep dives into their emerging passions.
My traditional arts workshops are skills based. We complete planned projects with the goal never exclusively focused on completion, but rather to embrace new skills and make thgem your own - to inspire you to make the things you love.
Media
Occasionally someone features my work in articles. A few examples:
“Toboggan ‘bout Town” is a a short - and very funny - documentary produced by my neighbors at 12 Stars Media. It documents the efforts of a small group of Hoosiers to complete in the U.S. Toboggan Nationals in Camden, Maine.
“50 Little Birds” is an award winning short documentary about living intentionally and dealing with mental health. It was produced by Tilt23 Studios and directed by Hannah Lindgren. It’s best viewed on Hoodox.
““50 Little Birds” is a Candid Discussion of Healing and Living with Intention” appeared in Pattern and explores why Hannah Lindgren and I made the film “50 Little Birds”.
“Carving art: Noblesville artist Geoff Davis gaining national attention for woodcarvings” was published by the Noblesville Current and talks about my work outside Central Indiana.
“Carved creations: Folk artist works underground downtown to spread sklls” is another Noblesville Current article. This one talks about my shop and why it opened.
“Geoff Davis: My Friend In His Creative Prime” appeared in the blog, Noblesville Contrarian and was written by my good friend, Kurt Meyer.
“Geoff Davis and the Blue Stone Folk School”, appeared in NUVO, an Indianapolis arts newspaper in 2008. It’s evidence that I’ve been trying to jumpstart traditional arts in Indiana for a very long time.
