I wanted set a tone in this work by producing a quote that I hope all Americans can get behind.

To print, in multiple colors, the piece is printed in one pass for each color (at least). I set and proofed the entire quotation. I then pulled the red text and filled it with spacing and printed just the black. Then I replaced the red text and replaced the black text with spacing. Then I printed the red. The Poco - a cylinder proof press - was never intended for multi-color printing. It has no registration system. I’ve devised a simple means to get tight registration.

This type came to my shop four years ago - the cases packed with yellow sticky dirt. It was stored in the ground floor of a barn that flooded. Hours of scrubbing and ultrasonic cleaning brought this back to life . (Another typeface, Clearface 36 pt., came in with it and has been similarly resurrected.)
