I just returned from a 3 month residency as maker-in-residence at the Fishers Library. During that time I spoke to a number of parents and students that were concerned with the lack of opportunities for handwork in their school and home-school programs. I taught for 33 years in the public schools and can affirm that students have little opportunity to learn to do handwork of any kind.

In January I began offering weekly shop craft classes for students (and interested adults). The first session focused on learning basic joinery and and technique to build and stock a toolbox. Students will operate a drill press, bandsaw, table saw and bench sander. The will learn proper technique for gluing and fastening joints, sharpening edge tools, working with leather and casting pewter.
