Introduction to Carving Little Birds (Jan. 26)

100.00

Saturday, January 26

8:00 - 4:00 (One hour lunch break)

Miniature bird carving is a tradition that traces its roots to early decoy carvers in New England who carved birds for the summer people. I’ve been carving miniature birds — in the New England tradition — for over ten years.

In this class we will complete a series of exercises in understanding the properties of wood and how to approach carving. You will move on to carve two birds with increasing difficulty.

There will be a discussion regarding paint and finish, but students will leave with their carvings in the white (unpainted).

No additional tools or materials are needed.

There will be a one hour break for lunch. There are many restaurants within walking distance.
