The Narwhal

875.00

My Maine summers were filled with ships and the sea. Everything nautical fascinated me. Whales and whaling -- though not particularly a Maine tradition -- didn't escape my attention.

In the late 1960s Admiral MacMillan's Polar expedition schooner, the Bowdoin, was docked near our home. My father took me aboard to see the famous schooner. I don't remember much, but the handrail in the main companionway, was a narwhal tusk. To a yet-to-be-a-decade old boy this giant tooth eclipsed everything else. It's all i remember about being aboard.

The Bowdoin, a rebuilt or two later, is still sailing. I recently contacted the skipper. She reports that she, or anyone she knows associated with the vessel, remember the narwhal tusk.

White Pine, Glass, Steel, Maple Croquet Ball, Brass and Leather

Each of my pieces are original and handmade. I've spent over 30 years developing the unique finishes that are applied to this piece. It looks great, but you'll want to handle it as well.

This is not a toy appropriate for children without supervision.

As always, shipping in the Continental U.S. is free.
