Northern Parula

120.00

When I solo paddled across New York and New England in 2014 my intent was to bird. I knew the heavy cover and evergreen canopy would make direct observation difficult. I knew that I would have to rely on my ears more than my eyes.

During the trip it was not unusual to nap after long difficult legs. After the second portage on a hot day I leaned against  rock, put my hat over my head and sept. Shortly after I awoke to ZZzzzzzzzziiip right above my head. Without even thinking I knew I was hearing a Northern Parula. This was the first time I identified a bird by instinct and without thought. This is a skill that I continue to work on and improve.

This little parula is carved from white pine with brass pin eyes. He is mounted on a natural sassafras twig. The base is made from a re-purposed vintage box an has a bit of the original label still there. Each piece is branded with my name.

5" t x 2"w x 5"l

Each of my pieces are original and handmade. I've spent over 30 years developing the unique finishes that are applied to this piece. It not only looks great, you'll want to handle it as well.

As always, shipping is free in the continental U.S.
